Help Afghan students at Sussex

It is difficult to express the sadness we have all felt watching the desperate situation unfold in Afghanistan.

Following the evacuation, Sussex welcomed nine talented Afghan students to campus, including Naimat.

These students arrived at Sussex under very different conditions to those they had planned for; and we know from experience that students who are displaced or cut off from their home country can have diverse and complex needs.

United we stand

In keeping with our status as a University of Sanctuary, we at Sussex are doing everything in our power to help these students feel welcome and safe, and to support them in rebuilding their lives:

  • Some, if not all, will need specialist counselling and mental health support to cope with the trauma they have experienced and separation from loved ones
  • Those unable to access funding from Afghanistan will need hardship bursaries and help to purchase warm clothing and household goods

Your gift will help our Afghan students make the most of their time at Sussex. Every pound donated sends a clear message that the Sussex community stands with them.

“When people say ‘welcome to your new home’, it touches your heart.” - Naimat

Please give whatever you can afford to support these students as they rebuild their lives.

100% of your donation will go to helping students like Naimat (read his story here
